Hey all:) I just wanted to share my review of The Rise by HD Gordon, so check it out:)
The supernatural world in which Alexa Montgomery has found herself is on the brink of war. She is charged with the task of raising an army, defeating an evil dictator, and struggling to contain the bloodthirsty monster that lives within her.
These are things Alexa can handle, but when the person she loves most in the world takes a turn for the worst, Alexa’s loyalty and determination will be tested in the most horrifying of ways. Will she be able to rise to the challenge, or will her love for her sister kill her once and for all?

The Rise continues the story of Alexa, a Sun Warrior, and her sister Nelly who is part Searcher/part Lamia. It picks up with Alexa,Kayden and Alexa’s mother recuperating from their escape from the Dungeon where Alexa’s mother was being kept. Alexa is coming to terms with her mother, who not too long after they escaped, once again began reminding Alexa of her duty to Nelly, and also chastising her for leaving Nelly for any reason. Alexa, although irritated with her mother silently agrees with her, and she begins having a sense of urgency that they must get back to Nelly. So they head back in a frantic state. While Nelly, in order to save herself and a few of the residents, she taps into her dark Lamia side and depicts phenomenal yet terrifying power. Nelly and the residents that she chose approximately seven, with intentions of returning for the rest, she escapes but not before she becomes lost to the darkness inside of her.
Alexa and her group meets Nelly and her group and they combine, and start traveling towards a safe haven. During the travels, Nelly worsens and then there is a tragedy that occurs that shocks Alexa and her companion’s very foundation. Nelly disappears, leaving the group. After a search, Alexa is finally convinced to continue towards the safe haven. Once there, Alexa searches for a way to save her sister. Once found,Alexa realizes that it will require a great sacrifice from her, her very life. The Rise has a shocking and at one point heart wrenching ending.
I truly enjoyed The Rise, it was well written, action packed and it kept me rooted in the continuing Alexa saga!I look forward to Redemption!
