GUEST POST

With so many  people promoting theories about 2012and the end of the world, I figure it’s my turn to jump on the Armageddon Bandwagon.  Please forgive me if I’m steeped in skepticism, corrupted by cynicism. Wait, that doesn’t sound too convincing, allow me to start over:

Should we be concerned about 2012? What should we do to prepare? Is our fate sealed? I take on these questions and more in this post. First, allow me to extend…

…My Qualification To Pontificate

Living in the mountains of Montana,I hear the universe talk to me! Yes, it’s true. Its voice isn’t obstructed by the noise of the civilization and its face isn’t obscured by the halogen cast of cities.  Free of civilization’s distractions, the universe has proclaimed me its voice and charged me with the duty of sharing Earth’s fate. To those who hear my message, I offer a ticket to salvation! To possess a ticket, one must understand…

…Our True Genesis

First you mustunderstand that our ancestors are not native to planet Earth! Shocking, but true! They have made their journey across time and space to escape nature’s greatest cataclysm- a supernova! We can trace our roots to the constellation Orion.  Orbiting a star known by its Bayer designation Alpha Orionis – we call it Betelgeuse – was the original Earth.  A similar theory of Earth’s colonization is trumpeted by Ronald Moore, the creator of the ‘real’ Battlestar Galactica.  Yes, the original ‘Earth’ was destroyed when Betelgeuse went supernova. So what’s the…

… Significance Of December 21st 2012, As Predicted By The Mayan Calender.

Successfulin fleeing the interstellar catastrophe, our ancestors created a calender which foretold the arrival of  a gamma ray burst that will destroy our current civilization.  That calender, of course, is the Mayan Calender.  Our ancestors provided us with warning when we would need to leapfrog to the next cosmic lily pad. But, something happened. Something went terribly wrong. Our ancestors settled in Mexico, and be it the climate, the water, or any of a myriad of reasons, they became too complacent to heed the warnings. They spend too much time  goofing off and  forgot the technology.  So…

…What Can We Do To Avoid Our Demise?

There are some among us who believe the cosmic cavalry is on its way to the rescue. For $38.50 you can purchase Biaviaan Symbols by Riley Martin. The artist claims these are boarding passes onto the mother ship.  I have a cheaper solution to the…

…Conundrum Of The Ages

In the movies, Yoda would say: “Practice yoga, you must.”  I say start stretching.  Stretch A lot.  In between stretchingexercises, take the time to read Cemetery Street,  for the price of $3.99 each, you fall into a story as funny as it is moving. I’m almost willing to guarantee a tear or two, so keep a tissue or two nearby.  Why between stretching exercises you ask? You better be good and limber when December 21st, 2012 comes so you can kiss your butt goodbye. Why Cemetery Street? It would be a shame to die and not read this poignant tale. Okay, if Riley Martin can do it, so can I. End of shameless plug.  But…

…What If Nothing Happens On December 21, 2012?

The answer is simple. The Mayan who created the calender was obsessive/compulsive and  dropped over from a heart attack as he chiseled the infamous date thus creating chaos for future generations of suckers. Remember Y2K? Charlatans and hucksters over the world got wealthier off of fear. But what if my prophecy comes true?  It’s been nice knowing ya!

SUMMARY/REVIEW

ReVamped

By Ada Adams

Blurb:

Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true. What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

REVIEW:

I really looked forward to reading this book; drawn in by the summary and the incredible cover. I was hooked completely by the first sentence…” Dawn! Watch out!” A frantic scream echoed through the courtyard. After that sentence a kick butt fight scene commenced… no holds barred! I love when the protagonist is a strong female…and that is what 19year old dawn is. Although she has been sheltered by her protective father, she was trained physically to become one of his best fighters! So because of this, Dawn is given her first mission; which she soon realize maybe be a fool’s errand. Her charges, the vampires she is to whip into great warriors of Angel Creek;  They appear to be the most inept, useless vampires that Dawn has ever seen. She is told to get them into shape so that they can stand as protectors over Angel Creek.

Dawn loses hope after training begins and there seems to be no improvement in the four vamps abilities. On the verge of giving up, Dawn and the group experiences the loss of one of their own friends, kidnapped by rogue vampires. So the group begin to bond during this crisis. Dawn and this group of misfits, come together…as a family of sorts, and they realize they all have alot in common, even though they have different pains and hardships in their past.

Dawn also finds friendship and love when two handsome locals enter her life, the handsome Ethan and the mysterious Sebastian, and this Sebastian holds the key to unlock many secrets that are surfacing from Dawn’s past.

Dawn and her new family find strength in one another as they battle an evil that threatens to destroy Dawn’s reality as she knows it!

I found the story full of action, which was interlaced with pockets of humor, which is rare in many vampire lore…I found myself laughing out loud at some of Dawn’s observations. I enjoyed Ms. Adams writing, clear, descriptive, fast paced. I loved how she fully evolved the other characters, and allowing us as readers to know them and bond with as Dawn bonded. The story had twist and turns, mysteries that had me gasping in surprise. I was impressed with Ms. Adams talent of weaving plots and subplots together…

This was a fun read, and anyone who starts on the journey with Dawn will not be disappointed!

Happy Reading all:)

GUEST POST

By Pandora Poikilos

Writing to me is a lot of things, it is acceptance, love, faith, hope, freedom and peace. All themes I have touched on before. But if I had to pick just one word to complete the sentence, “Writing to me is …” then I will pick “healing”.

Yes – Writing to me is healing. When I write, I am not the frail inept woman battling an incurable neurological disorder, I can be anything I set my mind to be without any limitations. I can choose to heal my past hurts, draw out the future and I can show people around me how much they mean to me.

Most of all, I hope I can offer “healing” to someone else who may need it so they too can chin up and keep moving forward. Lord knows I’m literally a few brain nerves short since my diagnosis and shunt surgery but for everything that has been taken from me, I still have the best thing of all, my words.

Love and light.

Music Mondays! Welcome Young Vinchi…”It’s Me” Album

Happy Monday everyone!

TWEENSCRIBE SPOTLIGHTS!

CHECK OUT WHAT WAS IN MY MUSIC MAILBOX!

It’s Music Monday so I thought I would do something a little different…Thought I would shine the spotlight on a upcoming artist…Let’s give a big Indiewritersreview welcome to Young Vinchi who is blazing a path and causing people to take note with his new mix  “IT’S ME”…self entitled 2012’s BEST -KEPT TASTY SECRET!

Young Vinchi was born Albert Neysmith Jr. on May 31, 1987 to Jamaican parents and raised in the Bronx, N.Y. by a close-knit family. He began rapping at age 8 to entertain his friends at school and by the time he got to Banana Kelly High School, he was the designated “interrupter.” Like all entertainers, he developed a craving for the attention offered by the stage.  He soon entered the school’s fashion and talent showcases where he fine tuned his showmanship and savoir faire.

After graduation, Vinchi attended LaGuardia Community College and studied theater and communications. He also begain performing at open mics and small venues around the New York metro area collected first place prize money and trophies. In 2007, he moved to Atlanta and worked with a number of up and coming producers that helped season his style.

In 2011, Vinchi, guided by his TroubleMaka management, entered into a smash collaboration with J Staffz,  the young and talented producer from Toronto, Canada. As one of  hip-hop’s hottest new producer, JStaffz has worked with Wiz Khalifa, Yung Berg, G-Unit, 40 Glocc.  His work on “It’s Me” is melodic, harmonious and explosive.  The post-production mastering is crisp, clear and high quality.

And yeah, let’s get back to the music.

PAST REVIEWS

Put your order in now and make it official; “It’s Me” by Young Vinchi is 2012’s best- kept tasty secret.  No need to take the D Train uptown to the Bronx’s  Bainbridge Avenue to get it, Young Vinchi – with his clever rhymes, sly imagination and hype J Staffz beats  – brings it to you .

Not one to waste time, Vinchi kicks off his inaugural 43- minute  mixtape with “Get Your Hands Up,”  a direct order to get ready for the trouble he’s about to make.

Released by NYC’s TroubleMaka Records, Vinchi’s songlist slickly crawls to a steady momentum with “I Want The Cash,” “My Style,” “All I Ever Want” and the steamy“Baby Girl.” The 25-year-old Bronx native’s swagger is relaxed, his raps are mature and mannish; ready to make most women swoon. If heart-throb actor Terrance Howard had a rapping little brother, it would be Young Vinchi.

The “It’s Me” set then makes a sharp turn and speeds up. If you – or the DJs at Sin City, Magic City, Jersey Shore or Madison Square Garden – need a couple block-hugging anthems for this summer, you’d be good to download “Black Girls” and “Bent Behind My Tint.”  Vinchi boy turns up his staccato, Tommy Gun lyrical delivery while celebrating the joys of hood chicks, roll-ups and Goose.  Don’t catch the flu while listening to these songs’ infectious beats; the flexing synthesizers, high-hat snares, Island reggae bass, conjure up smoky fantasies of those Twerk Team girls.

Welcome Authors Emma Meade and Courtney Vail

Hello, Happy Saturday!

Well, as you turn over, stretch and start your day,by reaching for your phone, Tablet, Pad, Netbook or whatever may be used to check out what’s happening on line; I’m glad you stopped by! Today I have very special guests Authors Emma Meade and Courtney Vail!… There will be a spotlight review on Emma Meade’s Night Sighs and a guest post from Courtney Vail of Kings and Queens!(also Ms. Vail’s cool Mind Track!:) So let’s get started:)

Author Emma Meade   of Night Sighs

SUMMARY/REVIEW(Novel great for Older teens to adults)

Night Sighs follow Tristan and Alex two lovers that are drawn to one another despite challenges between individual beliefs and outside forces.

Tristan is a vampire, handsome, enigmatic and extremely talented; he is a musician/lead vocalist, who is  able to mesmerize his entire audiences with just his voice.Tristan accepts who he is, as a vampire he hunts and fully relishes all that makes up his nature. Alex, human and at the start of the book, she is torn between her humanity and being in love with Tristan and accepting the parts of his nature that disturbs her, the parts that is difficult to reconcile on how humans are to be treated….basically not as food…Also, Alex, enjoys the benefits of her humanity, sunlight and other such sources that Tristan is unable to partake of, but there lies such a passion between the two, a drawing to Tristan that she cannot deny. But deny she must try…and she leaves him…

The next story(There are five stories that make up the book) …time has passed and Alex is drawn to a concert where Tristan is performing, she doesn’t know why, but she is…and it is as if time had stopped and their feelings had never changed. Alex, although living life, seemed to live it under the shadow of the passion and love for Tristan and vice versa, so when they meet in person again, and it is confirmed that Alex is back… Tristan makes a shocking move!

REVIEW

I was taken into the story at the very beginning. There was such raw passion from page one, that there was absolutely no way I was going to put down that book…I read it in one sitting! Just the way Ms. Meade describes Tristan, of course undeniably handsome…beautiful as Alex calls him. That is what he is…and in his own way, although he is a fully grown man, he has an innocence that belies his age and his vampire nature; Tristan has  two great loves…Music and Alex…and it appears as the story goes, he’s subject to losing one or the other at various times…Although the passion drew me in, the connection between the two characters kept me enthralled…

I believe the most shocking…and the most apparent part of the book for me...(SPOILER ALERT!!!!)…was when upon meeting again…Tristan, part in anger and retaliation of Alex leaving him….and part in assuring she will never do so again…he instantly kills and turns her….literally, my mouth hung open and I was surprised to say the least…It inhabited such brutality, the way he left her to make the transition into her new life on her own…and it showed the amount of pain he obviously suffered at losing her…As if he had died…(again)

But the book, was beautifully written, moving…funny at times…I loved the references to music and artists…(such as the Boss…Bruce Springsteen!)

I believe anyone that is a fan of the genre, has found a new voice to celebrate in that of Emma Meade…I look forward to what she has in store for us in the future!

GUEST POST

AUTHOR BIO:

COURTNEY VAIL writes totally twisted YA and adult suspense. She enjoys braiding mystery, suspense & romance with some kind of weirdness. Her addictions to crazy coffee concoctions, Funny Bones, Ben & Jerry’s, and bacon keep her running and writing. She currently lives in New England with a comedian stud and a wild gang of kidlets.

Kings & Queens Synopsis

Q&A with character Majesty Alistair!

Seventeen-year-old Majesty Alistair wants police to look further into her father’s fatal car wreck, hopes the baseball team she manages can reclaim the state crown, aches for Derek…or, no…maybe Alec…maybe. And she mostly wishes to retract the hateful words she said to her dad right before slamming the door in his face, only to never see him again.

All her desires get sidelined, though, when she overhears two fellow students planning a church massacre. She doubts cops will follow up on her tip since they’re sick of her coming around with notions of possible crimes-in-the-works. And it’s not like she cries wolf. Not really. They’d be freaked too, but they’re not the ones suffering from bloody dreams that hint at disaster like some crazy, street guy forecasting the Apocalypse.

So, she does what any habitual winner with zero cred would do…try to I.D. the nutjobs before they act. But, when their agenda turns out to be far bigger than she ever assumed, and even friends start looking suspect, the truth and her actions threaten to haunt her forever, especially since she’s left with blood on her hands, the blood of someone she loves.

1. If you had to describe yourself in one word, which would you choose?

One word? Really? One? What kind of interview is this? Weren’t you told I’m a talker? One word. Please. Shut me up now. Um, I guess, runner? Yeah, that’s me. In every sense of the word. Yeah, run with that.
2. What is it about Derek that keeps you coming back?

Wow, you mean besides his blue-diamond dazzlers that make me melt into utter stupidity? Just kidding. To a point. It is his eyes, and not the color really, although it’s gorgeous, but rather, the storms they hold. I mean, he’s got it so easy. He lives in a mansion, has a sweet ride and a room the size of Montana, gets great grades, crushes the inside pitches. His dad’s a senator. Everyone likes him. So, why the storms? I mean, my dad recently died and storms are so out for me. I don’t do storms. I don’t do GRIEF. So, what’s up with him? It’s a mystery. One I’ll probably never know the answer to because he’s so freakin’ clammed up. Derek’s an enigma, that’s for sure, and that dazzles me. He’s honest, biting, fascinating, commanding…fleetingly sweet. Every once in a while, I’m lucky enough to catch the sweet, as well as his smile. He has an amazing smile, when he’s compelled to flash it. And yet, those eyes again. I don’t know. I’m tugged to those deep but roped-off pools like to a Siren’s song. Wouldn’t you be?
3. Is there anything about yourself you wish you could change?

Uh, YES! I’d definitely like to be gutsier. I wish, um, that I could just, ya know, leap and take a chance when it really counts…and not merely when I know I’ll win. I win a lot, so I may look like a risk-taker, in essence, but I’m really a chicken. I’m totally terrified of being broken apart, so I do everything I can to avoid any heart and soul demolishers that might dare try it.
4. You are given a trip to anywhere in the world you choose. Where do you go?

Man, are you tryna kill me? Should’ve known this would cut deep. Couldn’t you have asked me about my favorite bands, ice cream, sports teams, anything?

Honestly, the only destination I ache for is yesterday, and there isn’t a plane ticket on earth that can take me there. I spat the rudest words to my dad and slammed the door in his face, hours before he died, and no beach or mountaintop, not even Fenway Park, calls to me like that one impossible trek. It sucks.

5. Tell me something you’re passionate about.

Well, exercise for sure. I run, bike, dance, walk, hike, roll. I’m the type that has to move and be on the go constantly. I can’t sit still for long. Even when I’m on the phone, I’m all over the place, burning tracks in the kitchen tile or my carpet. I’m also a sport enthusiast to the extreme.  I’ve chased down players for autographs, worn full face paint and an embarrassing amount of regalia, cranked out the best draft party in the state. I’m a nut. Sports. Nut. Look it up, Google it, you’ll find me there.

6. What is your favorite food?

I know, I know, you’re probably thinking Ben & Jerry’s because I talk about it incessantly, but I really love corn on the cob, mmm, I devour is all summer. It’s bliss in your mouth. Crispy and sweet, buttery and salty, yum, yum. I get kind of selfish when we make it and really don’t like giving up my ears to anyone. I growl like a dog.

7. What’s your favorite thing about Alec?

Hmm. Do I have to pick one? There are so many things I like, it’s so hard to choose. I guess I like that he’s compelled to be sunshine. He’s the first one to defend a friend, or lend a hand or give a word of encouragement. He’s the kind of guy that doesn’t need nudges from girls to get it right. He just steps up the plate, on his own, every time.
8.  What would you like readers to know before they read your story?

That I didn’t have anything to do with the baby pig in the locker room!

Thanks so much for having me! I had a blast.
